Pastor Jonathan – 5 day devotional on healing & miracles
Day1: Hearing God’s Word
Devotional The first step in preparing ourselves to receive a miracle from God is to hear His Word. God’s Word is not just an ordinary book; it is alive and powerful. When we treat it as such, it builds our faith and prepares our hearts for the miraculous. Romans 10:17 says, ‘So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ By immersing ourselves in scripture, we allow God’s promises to take root in our hearts, making us fertile ground for His miracles.
To the children of Israel on their way to the promised land, God said, “I am the Lord who heals you.” (Ex. 15:26) In this statement the Lord revealed one of His redemptive names, I Am Jehovah-Rapha, that is, I am the Lord, your physician, your healer. This promise was given to three million people. Ps 105:37 says “There was not one feeble person among their tribes.” When you read Ex 15:26 you need to see yourself in the “you” of that verse. He’s not just the Lord who healed them, but He’s the Lord. who heals “you” now.
Bible Verse So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17
Reflection Question How can you make more time in your daily routine to hear and meditate on God’s Word?
Quote One of the dangers we face as Christians is to treat God’s word as an ordinary book.
Prayer Lord, help me to prioritize Your Word in my life. Open my ears to hear Your voice and my heart to receive Your promises. Build my faith as I immerse myself in Your scriptures. Amen.
Day 2: Believing in God’s Promises
Devotional Once we have heard God’s Word, the next step is to believe in His promises. Faith is not just wishful thinking; it is the reality of what is hoped for. Hebrews 11:1 says, ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ Trusting in God’s unwavering character and His willingness to heal and provide is crucial. When we believe, we align ourselves with God’s will and open the door for His miraculous intervention.
Many people struggle with believing this for themselves. We acknowledge that God can heal, but we fail to believe that it’s God will heal “me”. In the Bible, we have categories that divide before Jesus & after Jesus. We call this the Old & New Testament. A Testament is simply a will. You have heard it said before a “will and testament.” God’s will is found in His Word. Let’s look at a few quotes from God’s Word
- “I am the Lord who heals you.” (Ex. 15:26)
- “God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19)
- The Leper in Matthew 8 “Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Settle this in your mind.. Jesus said, “I am willing be clean.”
- Isaiah declared “ He was wounded for our transgressions and with his stripes we are healed (Is:53:5)
- Jesus said “Which is easier to say to the paralytic, your sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and take up your bed and walk?” (Mark 2:9)
The Bible is clear – Christ bore our sins & sickness and carried them away, He redeemed not just our spirits but our bodies also. Let me say this clearly. Disease destroys the body that has been bought by Jesus. The Bible says “Satan comes to steal kill and destroy, but Christ came to give life.”(John 10:10) Who’s will is it for you to be sick? Who’s will is it for you to have life? Trust in His will & love for you.
Bible Verse Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1
Reflection Question What promises of God do you need to believe in more fully today?
Quote Faith is the reality of what is hoped for. He doesn’t say faith is hope. He doesn’t say faith is wishful thinking. He doesn’t say faith is a desire. He says faith is the reality of what is hoped for.
Prayer Father, strengthen my belief in Your promises. Help me to trust in Your character and Your willingness to provide for me. Let my faith be the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Amen.
Day 3: Acting on God’s Word
Devotional Believing in God’s promises is essential, but faith without action is dead. We must take bold steps of faith, just as the lepers in Luke 17 did when they obeyed Jesus’ command to show themselves to the priests. 2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, ‘For we walk by faith, not by sight.‘ Acting on God’s Word may seem risky or foolish to the carnal mind, but it is the bridge to unlocking heaven’s resources in our lives.
The Bible says “life and death is in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21) We need to change what we declare. Is it going to be your own thoughts, feelings, fears, concerns, and symptoms, Or in faith will you declare what God has already said in his word! By His Stripes you have been healed! Confess and declare it.
Jesus gave these instructions to His disciples & His disciples carried on this message to the church:
- In Matthew 10:8 “As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
- John 20:21 Jesus said “ as the Father has sent Me, I also send you..”
- James chapter 5: Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick.”
You see living by the Spirit will bring conflict to your natural mind. The supernatural the natural are not in unity. If you ever want to step out into the realms of faith, you will need to hold God’s Word above your natural senses. This isn’t something new, but a core of what being a Christian is all about. It’s hard, it takes work, many of us are not there yet. But the moment we begin to believe and accept, by faith, what God has done for us changes our lives instantly.
Bible VerseFor we walk by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Reflection Question What bold step of faith is God calling you to take today?
Quote Faith will always ask you to take a risk. It’ll look foolish. The carnal mind will not understand it.
Prayer Lord, give me the courage to act on Your Word. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight, trusting that You will provide and guide me. Let my actions reflect my faith in Your promises. Amen.
Day 4: Returning to Worship
Devotional After receiving God’s blessings, it is vital to return to Him with a heart full of praise and thanksgiving. The leper who returned to thank Jesus in Luke 17 was made whole, not just healed. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.‘ Worship and gratitude draw us closer to God and open the door for further blessings.
It’s never to early to begin to worship. I’m not asking you to lie. I’m asking you to declare in faith what Gods Word says over your situation. Talking about your problems isn’t going to bring a miracle. It’s only going to lead to elevated faith in your problem.
Bible VerseBe anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
Reflection Question How can you cultivate a heart of gratitude and worship in your daily life?
Quote Science has recently discovered that you can’t live full of anxiety and thankfulness at the same time.
Prayer Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your blessings and miracles in my life. Help me to always return to You with a heart full of praise and thanksgiving. Let my worship draw me closer to You and open the door for further blessings. Amen.
Day 5: Overcoming Doubts
Devotional The journey of faith is not without its challenges. Doubts can arise from past experiences or misinterpretations of scripture. However, understanding the true nature of accounts like Job’s trials or Paul’s thorn in the flesh can help us overcome these objections. Numbers 23:19 assures us, ‘God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?‘ God’s Word is true and His promises are reliable.
Speaking of Job this is what the Bible says about sickness, poverty & suffering. Job 42:10 KJV “10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” – The bible calls sickness and poverty Captivity… Jesus said I have come to set the Captives free (Luke 4:18)
Bible Verse God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? – Numbers 23:19
Reflection Question What doubts or past experiences are hindering your faith, and how can you address them with God’s truth?
Quote Job was a case study, that never again in scripture have we ever seen a galactic trial a man brought before the heavenly court where God gave Satan full permission to test him, to make him sick, to make him impoverished, to kill all that he had.
Prayer Lord, help me to overcome my doubts and past experiences that hinder my faith. Remind me of Your unwavering truth and the reliability of Your promises. Let Your Word be the foundation of my faith. Amen.
