The Miracles of Jesus | Week 5 | Blind Faith | MSF Quakertown

The Big Idea: Faith will take you out of your comfort zone, and that’s a good thing.

1. The Blind Beggar: Bartimaeus

Mark 10:46 (NLT)
46 Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road.

  • We see this story also in Matthew 20:29-34 & Luke 8:28-34, they are the same but different.
  • Mark lists the healings of Jesus other than Jarius only this blind beggar Bartimaues is listed by name.

Question: What is the significance of listing his name?

  • Jesus knows you by name.

#2. A blind man could see who Jesus was.

Mark 10:47-49 (NLT)

47 When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”48 “Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”49 When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.”So they called the blind man. “Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!”

  • What do you need to see?
  • You will face opposition to your miracle.
  • What will you do with the opposition?
  • Jesus is calling you.
  • How will you respond?

3. Blind Bold Faith

Mark 10:50-52 (NLT)
50 Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.“My Rabbi,[a]” the blind man said, “I want to see!”52 And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.[b]

  • His coat was his identity = his certificate or authorization to beg.
  • Faith is an action word.

James 4:2b (NKJV)… You do not have because you do not ask…

Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Never ask Jesus for less when He is capable of giving you more.
Bartimaeus followed Jesus the rest of his life and became well known in the early church. Many believe that he helped found the church in Rome.
