THE MIRACLES OF JESUS Week 1 -A Wedding

Scripture: John 2: 1- 11 NLT

The next day[a] there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”
“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”
But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.[b] Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, He said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.-11
When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”
**This miraculous sign **at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

**The Big Idea: Do whatever Jesus tells you to do; Just Do It!
**
But his mother told the servants, Do whatever he tells you. V5

**Number ONE: A SIGN**

A sign is something that points to something else that is greater.

In the BOOK OF JOHN, Jesus says 7 times the statement I AM.

I am the Bread of Life John 6:35
I am the Light of the World 8:12
I am the Gate 10:7
I am the Good Shepherd 10:11
I am the Resurection and the Life 11:25
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life 14:6
I am the Vine 15:1

Jesus brings the **SUPERNATURAL** to our **NATURAL**

* Jesus turns the WATER into WINE

John 2 V6 – 11
“Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.[b] Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, He said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

* Jesus is our CREATOR

Colossians. 1:16
for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.

* Only Jesus gives us NEW life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

**NUMBER TWO: A SYMBOL**

* The Wine

The wine is symbolic of the blood of Jesus that washes us clean forever, signifying the New Covenant.

The Messiah’s Cup in the 5 cups of wine in the Passover. Exodus 6:6-7

Therefore say to the children of Israel: I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of Egyptians (cup one),

I will rescue you from their bondage (cup two),

and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments (cup three).

I will take you as My people, and I will be your God (cup four).

Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage; I am the Lord. (cup five).

**The Fifth Cup refers to the future coming Messiah and ultimate redemption in heaven.

Matthew 26: 29 NLT
*Mark my words – I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdm.
*
**
Jesus chose a wedding for His first miracle. Jesus came to bring joy.

It’s very symbolic. God refers to himself as the bridegroom and we are His bride.

**NUMBER THREE: A SACRIFICE**

He told Mary His time had not yet come.

What was Jesus talking about? He was not ready to die. He knew what was ahead.

Mark my words – I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom. Matthew 26: 29 NLT

Jesus assures us of victory over death and one day at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in heaven we will feast with Jesus.
